Soul Cleansing Project

"In the end all that will remain are the things that you really treasure ".
                           Marie Kondo
All right, "this is so 2010" I hear the Knockers, " we all saw her on The Oprah Winfrey Show years ago!".
I get that, but Id like to say this book came into my life because I looked for it, not because I was force fed it from daytime TV. Looking at simplifying & downsizing I needed some guidance. As Miss Kondo describes, that years of collecting shit leave us in a confused state. For many reasons we come to think we need stuff to give us meaning or identity. But we end up owned by the stuff and liberating yourself is hard.
The only suggestion I have, that if you find yourself overwheimed by stuff, or just plain can't move on, read this book. My journey with Miss Marie has been brief. I read the first few chapters just a few weeks ago, before the week out west but had to put it down. I had devoured the good sense of her thinking & wanted to rip in. But there were two things that needed addressing; I was too busy & get up about .y upcoming trip (on my "new" motorcycle) & my son was about. In the recent past Joe has objected strongly to me thinning out or moving things. He's not autistic or anything, it relates to his mother's rapid separation from the fily home. Ms Marie expresses clear  thoughts about the emotional work required when cleaning her way. You have to want to be happy & future focussed. Joe is training, applying for fire jobs & is generally stressed at the moment. But, he's gone away for a few weeks ...
This stuff is brutal, but based on the initial phases of Discarding stuff, the results are brilliant. The shelves & cupboards are unburdened as am I. The feelings are of liberation & lightheartedness. It is as though you are travelling back to simpler times, perhaps childhood, when modest number of items were kept to serve us in our daily work. The visuals of space, clear  countertops enhances the notion that you are spiritually cleaner. Dare I say its like washing away past sins & misdemeanors & boosting
me forwards to a new practical way of living.
Peace.
