trip west pt 2

Its the day I leave my daughters place with some sadness & begin a solo drive 100+ kilometres south west. I'll skirt desert lands, seek off piste roads if possible & dawdle at cool places. I know that the main highways will not provide. Let's go! But first some exercise & oats. 
1000: my daughter pops in for morning tea (her) & breakfast (me). While we sat talking my son called to report that he had scored a full time position with a local fire management mob. This is huge, his first independent job since finishing homeschooling some years earlier. This news buoys my mood for the day; having him at home will lessen my responsibilities feeding pets & remaining close to home.
After I motored almost across the state, my daughter calls to report that her seniors have asked her to apply for several positions on Council that she might prefer. Wonderful to hear my children beingvrewarded. 
After sunset I find a lake in the middle of nowhere, known only to cheapskate grey nomads, a lone Harley rider & a million flies, gnats & mosquitos. 
I assume I have plenty of room to crash in the back & after no preparation realise its not that simple or comfortable. Oh dear. 
0331 hrs, lake benanee: sleep is hard, mosquito, cramped & hard. So I toss, engine noises, Harley stabber_pessimistic tiredness. Cons bakery, but really oats & brewed coffee will suffice. Old men eat week, avoid neg thoughts wh give way to comfort eating, prem death.Phil, office job, mental v little physical strain snacking, screens, death.. 
Sub camping, vs back seat , surfboard. Thk mstress, bug screens n spray..galley box. 
Wed 19Mar25:made it to the goolwa/cooyong np. It works out that the Down Soith Marina borders the national park, and it's an unbelievably large body of water. Its where Australia's longest river system meets the Bass Strait arm of the Southern Ocean. The roar of the Murray (River) Mouth is scary industrial in scale. It turns you off wanting to be out there; too strong current, a drop in the wind & you're the latest drowning statistic. 
But its beautiful!

a skin thing?

As a surfer from my childhood years I escalated to surfing most days. If i wasn't surfing I was just going on or out of the surf, or at school or in latter yesrs work. Some school days would see me run home from the beach dripping wet, stuff cereal down & jog to school. At lunch break I would grab a bike & get a surf in.  On my twenties i took up sailing. If I wasn't actually sailing I would be working on my boat getting things ready. I spent two enjoyable winters on the tropical north.  In later life, I've mowed lawns for an income & continued to swim & sail when I can.  As old surfers know, there's a toll on your skin. Some surfers I know have died or been treated for skin cancer, so it's a vocational hazard.  Added to this, I have a genetic weakness towards skin cancer. On the day a gunman nicked ex president Trump's ear the world politcians decried violence as evil, undemocratic & so on, more than 39 people were killed in Palestine. These events highlight mass hypocrisy across the world with regards violence & race.  No one in the media industry will ever mention this hypocrisy.
