Going on a pilgrimage has been in the back of my mind a long while. The main obstacles are financial and logistic; I have little money and have had 2'adult children, both of whom are dependent to some extent. Six months ago I also became a carer for a 12 year old.
But, things change. Since the passing of my dear old mum six months ago there has been talk of a sizeable inheritence coming our way next year. This would cover travel expenses and food and accommodation expense for a month in Spain. The screen shot above shows the cheapest adult return flight with Air India. I ride an Indian manufactured motorcycle, so have no strong views against flying AI, in fact I relish the opportunity.
What strikes me now is that rather than worry about "parking" my 12 year old for a month, he could come along too. He's loved a great portion of his life with x type of people, so a month of hiking, praying, eating, sleeping and attending church with many people on a spiritual journey, will do him good. I've also hit on the notion of inviting my soon to be 21'year old son along. He has struggled making the transition to adulthood basically, and has little confidence to just go out the front door and attend work or study of any kind becausexhe seems to lack confidence. I've read many times of young people gaining great confidence from enduring long hikes such as the Appalachian or Pacific Crest trails in America.any people refer to that one long hike as a life changing event. Well here's hoping.
So anyway, if airfares are $5500-$6000 and we spend $1500-$2000 each on food and accommodation, we could literally have the experience of a lifetime. Worth doing my homework and getting some balls rolling, I think.
