exit walkday 2 from o pedrouza
Eased off to the bank with no Wise card. Poop, at least no one can use it.
At the albergue I met an old e-cyclist, being fill on French we could not really chat. I did learn he was riding the Camino Frances from St Jean & found day one very difficult. He was quite short & old (late 70s or more), heavy set & unfit, yet here he was, loaded to the gunnels & having a crack. His machine was a cracker too; Scott brand with 2.5" tyres. It actually looked too big for him, but he seemed to know the bike really well, and I wished him well.
The Stones: after last evening's freakish get I thought today would go easily. Huh! I'd passed Lobre & Salceda was not far away, but The Way seemed lashed to highway side walks, so I was getting anxious. Then after passing a sello man, I saw the arrows go under the road, sello man actually tried to stop me saying was a na l loop, but I could a stone structure that I recognised from Julie's photos. I soon confirmed this as the site, but there no stones?! The area looked sodden and I wondered whether a flash flood had taken them away? At least I could hang on to pop's rosary beads. I liked the spot, but if a flood has erased the stones, it didn't hold me.
I remembered dad all day.
After, I realised i needed to walk a few hours yet. I wanted to revisit my favorite bar from last time (Casa Theresa & Bar), but it was in hibernation.
Sky is threatening heavy rain, but its still dry fingers crossed.
15:00hrs. It would seem that the longer you are a pilgrim, the easier it gets. I walk till tired, check the nearest town or village for albergues & whereas before I struggled, now I'm a bloodhound for a cheap albo. Tonight is a clean €10 stay, the only problem being, no WiFi. Its not the albo"s fault, its the regional authorities that established the login requirements (without customer feedback), who need a wakeup call.
Anyway after dumping my pack I shot to the pizza bar to find it closed for siesta. I later sniffed out a bar stacked with locals, and had atun ensalada & Pepsi for <€10.
Now its sack time to read kindle (app) do puzzles and veg out.
The Exit Plan is going well do far. I am dawdling along & finishing early for an avg 20 k's per day. I'll do this till Friday before scooting to Madrid. I had a heart flutter earlier when I saw Real Madrid vs Liverpool on the teev, but I think it was a future game, not this weekend.
