Ness Sail #2: Williams River, Seaham

Blest, who can unconcernedly find
   Hours, days, and years slide soft away,
In health of body, peace of mind,
                            Quiet by day,

Sound sleep by night; study and ease,
   Together mixed; sweet recreation;
And innocence, which most does please,
                            With meditation

Excerpt from: "Ode on Solitude", by Alexander Pope.

I got some of this today!

Having retired from gardening work I have time to follow my energies & interests. Today my hope was to sail my new boat, I was deeply in need of peace & knew the popular waters would be flooded with people at play & the highway im between, just as hectic. On my aimless drive I crossed a bridge over a wide river & thought, "why not".

As happens the sailing conditions were not best. The wind alternating between light & calm & there were confusing tidal flows. I spent more time drifting or anchored by a shady bank.
The cricket on the radio provided a gentle white noise, over ski boats dragging excited children. As the water lapped the hull I sat in dappled light, snacking, adjusting the rigging & sleeping in the bilge.I can't highly recommend the latter, I woke in direct sunlight, sweat dried by a cool breeze, but with a kink on my back.
Fumny, with all the minor obstacles getting to know a new boat, I find myself silently reciting that addage;
   A bad day on the boat is better
   than a good day at work.
