plan g - ducking the regulators or outlaw retirement or one shy rebel
after having popoo'd the idea ofslong plans ... feel a need to explain some goal post shifting. Its emerges from my continued resistance to authority & at least two recent clashes.
My hope to sail & liveaboard my Folkboat has beren quashed by the Myall Lakes - Port Stephens Marine Authority. Due to some esoteric bullshit thing, never explained or made public there will be no new or transferred moorings on Port Stephens on the foreseeable future.
My hopes to buy & renovate a miners cottage on the Central West was literally squashed by Parkes Shire Council. Having put the place on the market then sold it by auction, which they attended & had penned a contract saying there were no orders effecting the property, issued a Demolition Order within days after the auction. Should I have the temerity to want to renovate the cottage, I need to put in writing for their approval a detailed plan of my renovation plan, with timeframe & heeding all existing regulations. I will add that Council has never explained the reason for said issue. They will then expose me, & my wallet, to regular building inspections.
But, my desires to sail & ride my motorcycle & explore the Central West & boost in motivation to live below the radar of government surveillance can be pursued successfully ... by using the loopholes in their own regulations.
Avoiding Sailing Regulations:
A sailing vessel (dinghy) under 19' or so, not bring driven by an engine at a speed of over 10 knots, does not need registered ie: having to regularly submit details of the vessel & its condition along with requisite fee of increasing amounts per annum The vessel is also not required to be identified in any way; no licence numbers, name or labels of any kind. It is therefore not possible to track.
The only stipulstion is that safety equipment be carried. There are no restrictions to navigation or camping on board. Camping ashore in se places but camping from a small, shoaldraft boat throws up many more free options than travel by yacht or caravan ever would.
Land transport may require a trailer, but thos cam be circumbemted with a Hobie Adventure island being hoisted on the top of the car.
Avoiding Council Regulation:
My desire to visit the Central West can be achieved by rent-staying with my daughter & free camping. At this time Council has no business knowing about family "rent" arrangements. Free camping done right is invisible/does not require permission or registration, its also small scale & highly mobile.
Avoiding Surveillance While Riding My Motorcycle:
All vehicles must be roadworthy, registered & have basic insurance. I can't beat that for too long, & it would lead to increased goverement surveillance & fines.
But there are smart strategies to limit blanket surveillance of public servants & automatic devices is: take the backroads or secondary routes, avoid larger towns & ride at night.
There's a theme here; using lightweight equipment (eg: dinghy, tent, motorcycle), taking backroads/backwaters, free camping & night travel. Sounds like fun!
