laugh or cry

Just perusing the for sale columns and discovered s Walker 28 ketch (my dream boat) only five times my budget. But I carried the dream a.bit and looked at sailing her to Tasmania from her mooring at the SE corner of the mainland. Oh, an island halfway! I google the possibility and a forum pops up, a Newbie asked about hitching a ride to/from the island. 
What follows is that typical forum response; are stark racing mad? You poor silly fool! Go and take beginner lessons and come back in 10 years ... or more. I imagine old cronies, s bit angry at the world as old age creeps in and they feel too tired to address the boat's beard of weeds, waiting for se "fool" to innocently ask for help. Bang! 
It seems more absurd that we as a community treat prospects this way when reading Capt Fatty Goodlander. His positive and  practical advice is funny, encouraging and informative. Dont read sailing forums, read Fatty!

a skin thing?

As a surfer from my childhood years I escalated to surfing most days. If i wasn't surfing I was just going on or out of the surf, or at school or in latter yesrs work. Some school days would see me run home from the beach dripping wet, stuff cereal down & jog to school. At lunch break I would grab a bike & get a surf in.  On my twenties i took up sailing. If I wasn't actually sailing I would be working on my boat getting things ready. I spent two enjoyable winters on the tropical north.  In later life, I've mowed lawns for an income & continued to swim & sail when I can.  As old surfers know, there's a toll on your skin. On the day a gunman nicked ex president Trump's ear the world politcians decried violence as evil, undemocratic & so on, more than 39 people were killed in Palestine. These events highlight mass hypocrisy across the world with regards violence & race.  No one in the media industry will ever mention this hypocrisy.
