A New Trike!
Today has been a Big Day for Good and Bad Reasons. I want to finish on a Good Note, so I'll get the Bad out first. Today is My Dad's 11th Anniversary. On a Friday he went out along in this car to run some errands and he never made it home again. He had a massive heart attack aged 80 years. He was slowing up a bit, but he was typically a powerhouse of energy, especially when working for others. To his credit, he worked hardest for those most in need. Fifty plus years of volunteer welfare work for two different organisations, for 25 years of 24 x 7 he was my mum's primary carer. And beyond that the guy was the loudest, most energetic and people persons I've had the privilege to know. I never told him that though. It wasn't until I took over mowing and gardening his yard and caring for mum 2 days each week, that I realised what was going on. I never told him how impressive it was to witness him turn his life around, deep everything he loved doing for himself, for the benefit of his wife. Gold Standard Guy. It wasn't until he left, that'd I really did the adding up.
Phew!
Now for some good news. About two years ago, possibly more, I discovered Recumbent Trikes, Tadpoles, Bent Bikes, Laid Back Bikes. The Big Attractions were:-
* Comfort, the seating position is like laying in a banana lounge. Little weight on your wrists. Yipee no numbness. Not all your weight on your legs, so reduced leg fatigue.
* Quirkiness. They are odd looking so cats and Normally People street clear.
* It's common for touring riders to spend long hours in the saddle and covering big mileages each day.
* Carrying stiff is less off a tax on the legs.
* Trikes can travel at a faster average speed than Normal Bikes, especially downhill. So, they're Fun!
There is a downside to Trikes and that is the cost. But, you can get going on ac used trike and trade up. There's a second point and tha at is, tha at trikes have a bigger footprint and are potentially harder to get on planes and trains and automobiles. But a Folding Trike knocks that out of the park.
I rushed out to see the first Greenspeed trike that I saw online, because it was less than a thousand dollars. Frankly, it was a waste of 14 hours driving, because I wasn't warned it had been seriously modified.
Then I let my wounds heal before taking of for a four hours drive in a different direction. Still a Greenspeed, but about a thousand dollars. Well, it was in rough condition and the frame size was spectacularly large and the Seller tried too conceal that fact. So naturally i got pissed off, and left.
But today, after a week of studying a certain ad, and many queries answered, I got turned on the another Greenspeed trike. This one appears to have aged extremely well and is a GT5 which folds. And of course the good news is that I've left a deposit and it will be boxed up over the weekend and left with the courier on Monday.
Feeling relieved, excited and hopeful.
