World Caring Deficit

Western media distracts  with the pursuits of criminal findings against the last US President. 

Even without a criminal trial any casual observer is witness Trump's vices. "First enumerated by Pope Gregory I (the Great) in the 6th century and elaborated in the 13th century by St. Thomas Aquinas, they are (1) vainglory, or pride, (2) greed, or covetousness, (3) lust, or inordinate or illicit sexual desire, (4) envy, (5) gluttony, which is usually understood to include drunkenness, (6) wrath, or anger, and (7) sloth". (Ref: Wikipedia. NB: A founding member of Wikipedia, Julian Assange is being pursued by US government for honesty). Trump does it all!

While the Side Show drowns the media with attention-grabbing headlines & soundbites, a major catastrophe is unfolding in less wealthy, & non-Christian nations; China, Africa & Pakistan. Millions of people are experiencing losses; of life, abode & employment. Many of these losses will be permanent.  They are dot pointed in the media,  but analysis or even in-depth coverage is conspicuously absent. I imagine idealistic young journalists are coached to keep it dramatic & upbeat. Hence the Trump, Princess Diana or other Sideshow is pedaled out, ad nauseum.  

Always,  when natural disasters occur it will be the poor that suffer most & are the slowest to recover,  if at all they do.  As we further encounter more & more destructive Global Warming Disasters  recognition will reluctantly seep out as wealthy people or nations are effected.  

It's dour & depressing,  but there are solutions for individuals & nations. We cannot control nations,  but we can opt to not provide oxygen to mainstream media & dominant western economics.  

For most of  my adult life, after exiting mining for ecological reasons, I have strived to live off a minimum wage. In the past five years,  significantly below that amount.  I acknowledge that this is only possible after years of weaning myself from glossy advertising,  labor saving devices & other capitalist traps. In the next few months I hope to continue the shift to reliance on walking, offgrid living, the train, my bike & an engineless sailboat for my livelihood. I hope also to claim an age pension in order to weaken the economy.

a skin thing?

As a surfer from my childhood years I escalated to surfing most days. If i wasn't surfing I was just going on or out of the surf, or at school or in latter yesrs work. Some school days would see me run home from the beach dripping wet, stuff cereal down & jog to school. At lunch break I would grab a bike & get a surf in.  On my twenties i took up sailing. If I wasn't actually sailing I would be working on my boat getting things ready. I spent two enjoyable winters on the tropical north.  In later life, I've mowed lawns for an income & continued to swim & sail when I can.  As old surfers know, there's a toll on your skin. Some surfers I know have died or been treated for skin cancer, so it's a vocational hazard.  Added to this, I have a genetic weakness towards skin cancer. On the day a gunman nicked ex president Trump's ear the world politcians decried violence as evil, undemocratic & so on, more than 39 people were killed in Palestine. These events highlight mass hypocrisy across the world with regards violence & race.  No one in the media industry will ever mention this hypocrisy.
