departing day
I showered early & made sure my phone & power pack are full, put on fresh clothes.
Worry #1: That the airport bus driver would not take cash.
Result #1: He did happily.
Worry #2: I would alight at the wrong terminal due to lack of directions.
Result #2: The bus had a recorded msg.
Worry #3: I would find out too late that T4"S" is away from T4.
Result #3: The S refers to the area after luggage check.
Worry #4: Thus flight would be effected by European flights chaos.
Result #5: It looks pretty normal here, no crowds, no delays.
After hitting the street, I wanted to visit San Nicolas for a rosary. A mass was underway, but I pulled over to the side & did my thing.
Having only €20 I bought supermarket food. I wanted banana rolls, but they were selling sealed pkts only so I got cheese & apple. I got some orange juice to ward off bugs.
At the bus terminal I got straight on, cash was a non issue. Bus was chockers but did its job. I got very embarrassed thinking I would walk this! At the airport I got puffed going up four flights of stairs!
I can't explain how good I feel to be heading out of here. I've overdosed on Spain & I miss my little home with no neighbours, strange smells, or lurkers wanting money or looking scarey. I miss the sea too, one you can park near, swim and splash about in. I miss fish and chips, the warm air and knowing where I am and how to get home again, i miss mugs of coffee.
Future Travel. The biggest stress during this trip has been the lack of freedom. To move, stop, camp, eat or drink coffee where and how I want. I realise this is why I prefer sailing or perhaps bikepacking. I can eat as I go & have a ready berth to use as needed. Yes, there are other things to concern me, like weather, safe anchorage and camping away from danger. But I think on balance, these options offer more benefits.
16:23: update.
In noams land waiting on gate # info. This is torture due to a lack of seating. Then when you find it, comfortable seating. I feel crap, like I'm getting a cold but o woke like that so it might be a hangover from albergue air.
The location of the S bit in T4S is mindboggling, I've no idea where we've been on escalator roundabouts & a rapid five minute shuttle train. Now I find there are over a hundred gates on T4S.
PS: gate 34 i found it. now we wait 45m before we board. I just want to lift off from Spain, but suspect the plane is am Iberian affair leased to BA. Oh well what can you do? Get me on in London & I'll stop worrying.
Cool thing here, an automatic vacuum machine. It looks like a Darlik & is called a Darlum. Its very safety "conscious", if that's the correct expression.
When I board its 2hr to London, change planes, then 22hrs directly to SYD! Got 90 minutes to reboard, so hopefully its a little easy. ???
