Callambistia to Cardenvuela Riopico (30k)
hard night, unable to lay flat, still coughing and gagging. So at 6 I decamped
These early morning starts are beautiful; clear, calm & not crisp, but today cold.
I found a bar full of truckers, capucino & croissant for <€3.
Afterwards I bumped Julie the teacher of Glasgow. She was off track & Scottish cursing= very amusing.
Up a long climb to a long flat trail through an oak forest. Possibly the best simple trail so far.
Met lanky from Margaret River. With his wife, they toured Bosnia to look up family, and the Western Front war arenas which was interesting.
Met an informal stall holder with a red nose, trying for the
Don Quixote Bat Crazy persona.
Back on the trail met two pairs of Aussies, from Ballarat & Margaret River. I passed a village with nought do had nothing to do but keep walking. At Atapuerca I found a minimart for sardines, tomato, Babette and an orange flavoured drink. I stripped off across the road, had lunch, snoozed, lathed. Watched Camino walkers, shopping for trinkets, toting small packs, boarding a plush coach to return to Burgos motels.
My new schedule, 6 to 1-2, long lunch, walk another hour.
Unfortunately the way out of Ata' was interesting: up, up & up, & the hills cap was a jagged stone reef. Then a jaggedy downhill for some way & later a smoother path into Riopico. This places claim to fame is for the finding of Europe's old skull remains.
