a 9 square home
On ABC Radio a caller described his efforts to create a 9square house because he thought large homes were immoral and wasteful.
I could only agree. For many years I have mused over a desire to build an L shaped 2 roomed cabin.
Today I did some research. Mmm, one square is 100 square feet, so this fellow built a "small" home of 900 sq ft. that is 84 sq metres. Interesting, because the house I currently rattle around in is, a little over 90 sq m. I'd like to at least halve this size.
Anyway, one of the issues is a profound difficulty in getting builders to take this work on. They're too embedded in building "McMansions"; five or six bedroom, four bathroom warehouses for commonly, two residents. Crazy!
I considered hempcrete blocks due to the need for heat insulation and bushfire proofing.

So, if I build a 7x7 L shape, the total wall length would be 28m (actually 4m less for doors & windows, by a height of 2.5. adds to about 58sq m. Costing under $9k. for the blocks - BTW they are negative carbon.
